After a lot of planning related to the banking scenario in the country, government of India agreed upon the ratification of setting up Gramin banks in the country. This was done with the help of the 1976 Act of Regional Rural Banks. According to this Act, regional rural banks would be established in area comprising of villages and poorer sections of the society, giving them independence in terms of financial banking facilities, deposit accounts, credit and loan facilities. It was decided that the 7 RRBs of Eastern Uttar Pradesh and 2 RRBs of Western Uttar Pradesh be brought under united administration. Hence, two RRBs were established namely the Baroda Eastern Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank and Baroda Western Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank in 2006. Later in 2008, these two were again merged and formed into one single unit of Baroda Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, with its headquarters in RaeBareilly. This RRB was under the control of the central and state government and sponsored by the Bank of Baroda. Under the jurisdiction of the Baroda UP Gramin Bank, there are about 14 districts and 597 rural branches and few more in the semi urban and urban areas.
